They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and revered and worshiped the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. Rom 1:16-25
Body and soul, mind and matter, physical and spiritual, are dualities we must keep balanced on our journey. St. Paul warns against idolatry- the attribution of the powers of our invincible but all powerful God to something material. This approach is not always an indication of an opposition to God. It can be a symptom of a stunted mind, incapable of being lifted beyond the physical. The tools for training our minds and giving nourishment to our souls so that it can be in union with God who is always with us spiritually include prayers and meditation.
When we go through the practice of meditation and prayer, we lose our egoic grip on the sense of self and the material and thus able to transcend.
