Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s readings, particularly from Ecclesiastes, remind us that all is vanity—chasing wealth, comfort, or greed is like chasing the wind. These things fade, leaving us empty, far from the treasures of heaven.
Think of an alarm clock. It’s meant to wake us up, but sometimes we’re already awake, so it feels pointless. Yet, even then, the alarm reminds us: time is passing, and we must act. God’s voice is like that alarm, calling us today, as the Psalmist says, “Oh, that today you would listen to his voice, harden not your heart.”
Don’t hit snooze on God’s call. Greed, comfort, and worldly pursuits pull us from what truly matters—loving God and neighbor. These are the treasures that endure. When you hear His voice today, take action. Let go of vanity, and store up riches in heaven.
Amen.
