Monday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time

Monday – Praying for the dead: Thessalonians 4:13-18; Luke 4:16-30

The doctrinal teaching on purgatory has raised lots of questions and grievances against the Church. Yet the Church remains firm in her teaching on purgatory.

The doctrine simply calls for prayers for the dead who need to go through final purification before joining the triumphant Church in heaven. It is a spiritual work of mercy with indulgences. Wisdom of men cannot justify this teaching except faith and wisdom of God in the crucified Jesus. May God be pleased to grant admittance into eternity for those in purgatory through our intercessory prayers. Amen!
