Friday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

The Church exists primarily to evangelise. This was what Jesus committed his entire life to as we read in the Gospel reading of today, ‘he made his way through town and villages preaching, and proclaiming the Good News of the coming’. This same mandate he has given to us: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matt. 28:19)

Though there are growing number of Churches today, it is unfortunate that is not a true determinant of growth in evangelization. St. Paul pointed out to Timothy in the First Reading of today, those who do not keep to the sound teaching which is that of our Lord Jesus Christ. Many of such are in the world today pursuing and promoting their own agenda.

In the face of the aforementioned, just like St. Bellarmine, who devoted his energy to systematize Church doctrine against ideological attacks we must be more proactive in promoting the true teachings of Christ against distortion, and like the women mentioned in the gospel reading of today, we must also support the evangelization drive of the Church with our resources. – Fr.
