The parable of the Sower jolts our consciences in deeper reflection on who we are in relationship with the word which is symbolized in the seed planted. A seed has an enormous power within it to generate life if it is planted under the right condition. Jesus has come to give us life and to give it in full. For this he has provided the seed.
Where do will receive the seed – On the waysides, among thorns on the rock or on the good soil? This determines the fruitfulness or otherwise of the seed. We become accountable to God when we receive the word, hence we must cooperate with his grace to be the best of soil capable of yielding maximally in proportion to the life-giving seed he pours abundantly in our hearts.
And all it takes to be fruitful is to be faithful i.e., to do all we have been told. As the word has enormous power to generate life so also our hearts with the help of his grace have the capacity to grow it. May we come before him singing for joy on the day of reckoning. Amen.- Fr. Stephen
