Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

On this day of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, the Church invites us to celebrate and rejoice in the wisdom of our God who chose the cross as the instrument of our redemption. His ways are not our ways and is choices are always perfect. The response to our Responsorial Psalm of today says: “Never forget the deeds of the Lord.” How can we forget the wonder of the greatest deed which is the redemption of mankind and the instrument of its fulfilment – the cross.

In the First Reading, the Israelite forgot the deeds of the Lord and they faced the consequence, which was death from the poison of the serpent. We should not pay less attention to the deeds of the Lord regarding the prize paid for our redemption.

As a Church, through the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, we call the world’s attention to the importance of Christ’s death on the Cross “for the Son of man must be lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

We adore you O Christ and we bless you! For by your Cross you have set us free! – Fr. Steve
