Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter, Apostle

The feast of the Chair of St. Peter does not celebrate a piece of funiture, but the office the Chair represents. The Chair is a source of authority and unity in the Church. It was created by Jesus himself, ” You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church (Mt 16:18) for a Church on a mission of making disciples of all nations. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”  (Mt 28:19-20) St. Peter and his successors have exercised this authority under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

We thank God for his wonderful gift to the Church, may the Church
spread throughout the world, be brought to the fullness of love with the Pope and all the Bishops. Amen.
