Saturday after Ash Wednesday

“Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.” (Lk 5:27-32)

In these forty days of lent, Christ will call and invite us several times just like he called Levi, the tax collector. Like Levi, we experience the Father’s preferential love for the lost, weak, troubled, down troden and the poor. His redeeming love empowers us to use our gifts and resources in ways that are more fulfilling. His gentle encouragement reminds us what ever the past has been we can always begin anew. Sometimes we define ourselves by what we have done and what we have accomplished, but God sees differently. He sees not the past but the great potential of our souls. Thus he calls and invites us over and over again because he sees the greatness and goodness and beauty of our soul, which is made in his image.
