“Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God:“This is the time of fulfilment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”Mk 1:12-15

After the flood, God made a covenant with Noah. After his temptations and solitude in the wilderness, Jesus proclaimed the Kingdom of God and repentance. We observe in the readings today how God sets in motion the process of rebirth and regeneration and bring his people back from abusive and dysfunctional reality to a new reality and identity, powered by his spirit. May our lenten experience lead us ultimately to rebirth and renewal.

Today the first sunday of Lent happens to be the feast of the Chair of St. Peter. This feast celebrates the unity of the Church, founded upon the Apostles under the leadership of St. Peter. We renew as well our assent to the teaching authority of the Church.
