“his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.” Lk 15:1-3, 11-32

The parable of the prodigal son, is one of the parables of mercy, that illustrates the nature of God’s compassion and love. We learn from the story how the father was accommodated the various stages and episodes in the life of his sons. How he was happy the lost son was found, how he reassures the older brother he is dear and precious as well by going out to meet him. Jesus used this parable to invite us to embrace mercy as a lifestyle. Mercy therefore becomes an orientation that matures in our soul and manifested in our actions towards others regardless of who they are.
