Friday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Like the choice fat of the sacred offerings, so was David in Israel.

Herod was the one who had John arrested and bound in prison Sir 47:2-11
on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married. Mk 6:14-29

In the stories of David and Herod we see not only a progressive decline in responsible leadership of Isreal’s Kings, one can note also that the abuse of power, was a constant feature. Jesus will teach his disciples the true purpose of power. He is the true King. Of him, the book of Revelation says: They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful. (Rev. 17:14 ). Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit may we use our powers humbly and positively.
