The uplifting tune of “When the Saints Go Marching In” filled our ears and emotions at mass this morning. It’s a music that reverberates through the ages, bearing with it the testimonies of many believers who came before us.
When we pause to celebrate the Eucharist as Catholics, we are also given an opportunity to reflect on the lives of the saints who have gone before us and testified to the transforming power of Christ in their own special and wonderful ways. These holy people, shining with God’s glory, can inspire us and lead the way on our own spiritual journey.
Still, we should be honest and admit that not every saint gets a day in the sun. In the vastness of God’s heavenly realm live countless saints, both famous and obscure, each of whose lives contribute to the tapestry of redemption history and the beauty of our Catholic faith.
On the solemnity of All Saints, we remember and celebrate not only the well-known saints but all the saints; The huge multitude John wrote about in the book of Revelation, which includes both people we may not know by name and members of our own families.
This festival serves as a moving reminder of our common destiny as children of God. As we celebrate the saints who have gone before us, we also anticipate the day when we, too, will join that beautiful procession into the heavenly kingdom.
In the communion of saints, we find inspiration, strength, and a strong sense of togetherness as we continue to march toward the heavenly Jerusalem. So let us celebrate the joy and inspiration that comes from this fact. May our lives be worthy of the celestial procession that awaits us, and may the saints’ examples and intercession help us along the way.
All the Saints of God, Pray for us..
